How much does driveway sealcoating cost in Oklahoma?

Every 3–5 years is the recommended interval for Oklahoma driveways. Oklahoma’s UV exposure and freeze-thaw cycling accelerate sealcoat wear faster than mild-climate states. Applying too frequently (annually) builds up excessive thickness that cracks and peels. Waiting longer than 5–6 years allows UV oxidation to advance past the point where sealcoat alone is sufficient maintenance. The Asphalt Institute recommends against sealing new pavement for 2–5 years; after that, a regular program every 3–5 years is sound practice.

Fresh sealcoat requires a minimum of 24 hours before vehicle traffic, and we recommend 48 hours in Oklahoma summer heat — higher temperatures slow the curing process even though the surface dries quickly. Foot traffic should be avoided for at least 4–6 hours. Do not allow vehicles to sit in the same spot for extended periods during the first week — tires on hot fresh sealcoat can leave impressions.

Not structurally. Sealcoat bridges and cosmetically covers hairline cracks (under ⅛ inch) but does not seal cracks that are wider than that. Any cracks wide enough to show as a visible line in your driveway should be cleaned and filled with crack sealing material before sealcoat is applied. 633 Asphalt evaluates and treats all visible cracks before sealcoating — we never just paint over them.

Fall (September–October) is the ideal Oklahoma window — temperatures are moderate, UV is lower than summer, and there is time to cure completely before the first freeze. Spring (April–May) is the second-best choice. Both require surface temperatures above 50°F and a dry 24-hour window after application. Summer work is possible but requires early morning scheduling to avoid excessive heat during curing.

Store-bought sealcoat products are often pre-diluted and have lower solids content than commercial-grade material. Application with a squeegee or roller by hand produces uneven film thickness. Crack preparation is typically skipped. The result is a surface that looks fine for one season but wears unevenly and fails faster.
